| The Cook Islands are an unspoilt cluster 15 volcanic islands and coral atolls in the Pacific Ocean. Spread over an area the size of India with a population no bigger than a small town, the Cook Islands lie in the heart of the Polynesian triangle, flanked to the west by Tonga and Samoa and to the east by Tahiti and French Polynesia. The net of 15 islands enjoys a vigorous and diverse culture with significant differences between each island. Despite some 90,000 visitors a year to the capital island Rarotonga the Cooks are largely unspoiled by tourism. There are no highrise hotels, only a few beach buggies and very little hype. The main Cook Islands are about the same distance from the equator as Hawaii and have similarly pleasant tropical climate. |
