| Samoa is sometimes known as the cradle of Polynesia and justifiably so Samoans can trace their history back more than 3000 years. The traditional culture of Samoa has been preserved more strenuously than any other South Pacific island nation. Known as fa‘a Samoa, these customs and traditions are particularly strong in Samoa‘s villages.
Called Western Samoa until 1997, the nation is made up of nine volcanic islands, two of which, Sava‘a
and Upolu, make up more than 99 percent of the land area. With palmfringed beaches, pounding surf, misty rainforests, and friendly locals Samoa remains popular with travellers. |
